Douglas County Arrest Records

Since an arrest usually occurs before a criminal court case ensues, the apprehending agency's documentation of the event (an arrest report) is considered the first record in the criminal justice process. Douglas County arrest reports are not just paperwork describing the who, why, and where of an arrest, but also foundational records in instituting criminal cases against arrestees. The arrest records are public administrative logs summarized from arrest reports.

Because arrest documentation is critical to how the justice system works, the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA) lists arrests among "records of official actions" that the public has a full right to know about. As specified in Col. Rev. Stat. § 24-72-302(1), such records are expected to inform the public about

  • The arresting agency
  • The arrest date, time, and place
  • The individual's name, home address, and date of birth
  • The alleged charges or offenses

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office may include details like those above when fulfilling arrest record requests submitted by the general public. However, records or portions of records that involve certain types of information are typically withheld. The list includes juveniles, active investigations, sealed records, and informant identities.
